Season 08 Is Underway!
June 5 | 8.8 Nautical Miles
On the morning of June 5, I headed down to PYC to scope out the location of my mooring which had been moved over winter to a new, closer-to-PYC location. After finding the new mooring location, I waited for my friend MK to show up, who had agreed to lend a hand on launch day. We hopped into her car and headed up to Yarmouth Town Landing where Tim was scheduled to launch the boat at 1030.
Rig the Rig
We arrived at YTL at 1020 to find Tim and Dasein already waiting. After paying the launch fee to the harbormaster, Tim quickly and smoothly got the boat into the water. I checked the bilge, fired up the engine, and added the Windex to the masthead and soon enough we were on our way.
We powered over to Royal River Boat Yard, and after a brief wait while they finished up with a Hinckley that they were rigging, we slid into the ways where the mast crane was waiting.
Stepping went smoothly, with little to note. With the rig up, we backed out of the ways and started down the river.
Grey, But Pleasant Enough
Once on our way, I turned the helm over to MK and spent the bulk of the trip around to Falmouth putting the boat together. While we powered around I hooked up the mast wires and vhf antenna, cleaned up the mess of tools and small stuff left over from the stepping, rigged the boom, and ran up the jib.
We enjoyed a pleasant trip which was much more enjoyable with some company aboard. The passage was without note, except for a lost hand towel and a small piece of the roller furler (a fairlead for the luff track) going overboard. Before we knew it, we were picking up the mooring in Falmouth. 1255.
After a short conference, we decided to go ashore and go get MK's car. She then headed to the grocery store in search of Goslings Dark Rum and I returned to the boat to bend on the mainsail. Shortly thereafter MK arrived with a long face: no Goslings! She was however, easily consoled with a cold PBR.
After a pleasant lunch MK reluctantly headed ashore so that she could put in a couple of hours at the office, and I finished tuning the rig, installing our new vhf, and generally putting things together.
The afternoon remained dry, though the skies were at times
