Distance Travelled: 20.4 nm | The Basin to PYC

cruise photoAwoke 0630 but lazed in bed. Could tell SW wind was already blowing 5-10 in the Basin! As I was getting ready to haul anchor, noticed a big Carver getting close. Dragging, of course. They were on the ball about it though and were getting going before I even noticed that they were dragging. What a passage. Sheesh. Departed 0945. Single reef. powered out river. Foul current. Foul wind. Foul swell. 3.5 knot average. Barf. All the way to Jaquish like that. Saw boat speed as low as 2.8 knots banging into a building swell. Outside Jaquish turned for Little Mark (which had some people on it!). Wind fair and was getting a good push. Looked like I could lay the marks through L. Mark pass so got ready to unfurl jib. As I was doing so, wint through a bunch of floating weed: engined bogged, then could only get 2500 rpm. WTF??? Must have wrapped a bit of weed? Got sails ready and killed engine. Nice reach throughL. Mark and across Broad Sound. Near Bans Island, the wind lightened some. Hardened up for the beat through to Chandlers. Considered shaking reef but thankfully decided it was too much work. After a couple of tacks (one fortunately much more favored than the other), wind started to increase. Ended up beating into 20 solid near Hope Island. For fuck's sake!!! Managed OK though, and after a few more tacks was able to make for Chandlers. Amazingly, got through Chandlers onone tack! Then had nice reach home. Strong for a while, but lightening as I got closer to PYC. Picked up mooring at 1430.Cruise finis.
