Distance Travelled: 29.1 nm | Long Cove (Tenant's Harbor) to Harmon Harbor

cruise photoAfter breakfast, charted course to Davis Strait, then on to Harbor Island and Harmon Harbor, depending on wind and mood. Put boat together and headed out under mostly cloudy skies, hoping to be able to sail on the forecast NW winds. But as usual, the forecast bore no resembelance to reality. Left 0930. Outside there was 0 wind and slight swell. Powered S toward Mosquito Island, passing an Island Packet 28'(?) that appeared to be motoring through mud at probably only 3.5 knots. In passage past Port Clyde there appeared to be some wind. Killed motor and had nice 4-ish knot sail through. Turned down for Davis Straits and was only making 1.7knots. Powered down to Davis at 6knots and turned for Eastern Egg Rock and the White Islands some 8 miles beyond. Again seemed to have some wind along with occasional light showers. Sailed at 4.8-2.2 knots past EER and on toward White Islands. Wind contined to ease and roll ketp emptying sails. Eventually the wind died completely. Where is my NW??? Motored last 5 miles past White Islands and turned up for the Sheepscot. Passing Damariscove a SSE breeze started to fill in (;nowhere was that forecast...) and I was soon sailing nicely. Turned down for the run to Harmon Harbor and spied a whale close aboard. Sailed most of the way, wind growing lighter further up the river. Motored last mile. Set the hook in 21 feet at low at 1600. Shortly after an A30 from Baltimore powered in and motored by to say "Hey, nice Triton!" He set his hook long enough to wait out a threatening T-storm that skirted us, then pulled up his anchor and headed on. Many dramatic and ominous cloud formations throughout the afternoon and some rumbles of thunder but no storms actually hit my location.
