Distance Travelled: 20.6 nm | Carver Cove, Vinalhaven to Long Cove (Tenant's Harbor)

cruise photoUp 0635. Had coffee and breakfast and was underway 0810. Motored into F.I.T. in glassy calm. Had nice passage through the Thorofare. Saw only 2 boats until south entrance, then only 4 or 5 more! Outside wind was 0. Otto drove across Pen Bay to Marblehead Island while I read. Took over steering duties @ MRC. Had fair current through the channel, making good time at 6.2 knots. At south end wind seemed to be filling in. Killed engine and sailed last 3 miles at 4.5-5.0 in 10knot sw. Nice, if short. Arrived Long Cove 1200. Already 4 or 5 boats anchored. Dropped hook in 9' at low halfway between High Island and the "Rep 1 ft" spot on the chart. Spent afternoon reading untill around 1500 when I noticed the boat anchored to windward dragging down toward me. Yelled over and they denied that they were dragging. Typical. ::sigh:: Pulled hook and found new spot to anchor to windward of most of the boats. Later I noted them scurrying about the boat and putting out second anchor. Stupid. Blustery afternoon SW 5-20. Relaxed and watched the action. New Bedford YC fleet was at Tenants/Long Cove. Lots of boats anchored. Late afternoon, the Triton Rondo (Bill Richardson) motored by and we chatted briefly. Wind slowly diminished during the evening until finally quiet around midnight.
