Distance Travelled: 19.4 nm | Hells Half Acre to Northeast Harbor

cruise photoAwoke to light patch fog. Soon we couls see into Jericho Bay. Light southerly was already blowing and we got ready to go. Departed 0900 saying "bye" to Tim. Departed in about 5knot breeze on the beam. Fair current, nice sailing at 2.8-3.5 knots up to Scraggy Island. Hardened up to clear another ledge, then made off on beam reach for York Narrows. Many pots and toggles with the current setting us at about 45 degrees onto them. H did a great job steering us through. Wind built ot probably 10 knots steady and we were soon making over 5 knots with current. Around Egg Rock H relinquished tiller. I sailed up to York Narrows in decreasing winds. Sailed most of the way through the narrows before the winde died completely near Otter Island. Fired up engien to power thorugh the last quarter mile. Outside there was wind again and I killed the engine. Nice sialing at 6 knots! But not for long. Wind eased and current became foul. Slogged across Blue Hill Bay at 2.0-3.5 knots. About 1/2 mile from Bass Harbor Bar the wind pooped out completely. Motored to the bar. Just across the bar, fresh breeze. Nice reach at 5.5 knots to Western Way, then long run, often wing-and-wing down into Northeast. Seas in the WW confused with swell, chop, and wakes all over the place. Outside NE dropped main and motored into the harbor. Arrived in NE at 1400. Mooring Agent recognized our boat name over vhf and said "go find number 206. I'll get you later!" Settled on mooring and decided to head ahsore for ice and few provisions. Mooring agent saw us leave and waved "don't worry I'll come by later". Picked up few items then back to the boat. Repacked icebox, checked email (from the boat!), Gav played aboard. Around 1730 Gav said "Mommy, I need to go for a run!" H and G went ashore while I prepared dinner. Fresh corn, tomato slices, and small pork roast on da grill. After dinner G played for a while but was tired and soon asleep. Read for a while. Then to bed.
