A Shakedown "Cruise" Continued

July 8 | 4.7 Nautical Miles

Finally, at about 0500 Bailey decided that he HAD to get up. Heather dragged herself from the rack and took him ashore to do his business. Meanwhile Gavin played with his dinosaurs and I watched groggily from bed. Soon after her return, I got up and made bagels and coffee, then wiped down the cockpit and the three boys sat outside while Heather read for a bit.

Moored nearby was an aquaintance from Peaks Island, and I chatted with h im briefly until Heather informed me that it was time to take the boys ashore.

I packed Gavin and the dog into the dinghy and headed for shore. I tied up at the dinghy dock, and we started walking up the hill toward the Chebeague Island Inn. Within moments, however, Gavin informed me that he had to poop. Hoh-boy. Back into the dinghy, and out to the boat to leave him with Heather. Then back ashore so that Bailey could walk, and hopefully do his own business.

We walked along the road that crosses the golf course, and up the hill to the Inn. Then we turned around and walked back. Bailey enjoyed himself immensely, but didn't seem to show any interest in doing his "business." Oh well. Along the way I caught a nice view across the golf course to where Dasein was anchored.

Bailey and I returned to the boat where Heather had packed everything up and was ready to head home. There wasn't a breath of air, so we fired up the diesel and chugged our way back home through another hazy, hot, and humid morning. As we passed the Wyman Station power plant on Cousins Island, she belched out a plume of black smoke as she started up to provide extra electricity on this steamy day. By 0945 we were back on the mooring and soon enough we were packed and heading ashore.

Brief though it was, it was nice to finally spend a night on the water! I can hardly wait for our August cruise.
