Distance Travelled: 10.4 nm | Bucks Harbor to Brooklin/Wooden Boat School

cruise photo The weather was wet and snotty, but we didn't want to spend another day in Bucks so as things cleared up a bit later in the day we were able to head out for a new harbor.

From the log: Rain! And fog. And wind. Gav was cranky early, and we let him watch a DVD on the computer till the rain eased and we all went ashore. Hung out for a while at the yacht club while Heather "freshened up." Read some yachting magazine digests from 1915„cool! Walked up to the market to get fresh bread only to find they don't bake on Mondays. Headed out and told Tim that we were leaving, regardless. Back to the boat, got things ready and were underway by 1030. Motored out of the harbor and found that we were able to sail up Eggemoggin reach on a close reach/beat. Layed the whole course on one tack though. 3.5-4.5 knots for the first half, but winds built on second half. Might have reefed, but we were almost in to Wooden Boat. Picked up [guest] mooring. Tons of schooners in port. Glissando arrived about an hour or so later. Prudence another hour after that. After Gavin's nap, went ashore. Checked out store and classrooms. Most interesting was the "bronze castin" course. On the way back to the docks a guy was moving barrels witha huge tractor and let G drive one barrel up the road! Cocktails aboard Glissando. After dark, sat in the cockpit with the laptop doing route planning.

Harbor Notes: Nice spot. The grounds are beautiful. Moorings $10. Also plenty of room to anchor in good mud. Protection is not great but fine in settled weather. Popular schooner stop. Also fun to watch Wooden Boat School students sailing the various small wooden boats about the harbor.
