Distance Travelled: 0 nm | Lay Day, Seal Bay, Vinalhaven (Near Hay Island)

cruise photo The forecast was for strong winds (20 knots with higher gusts) so we determined to enjoy another lay day. It was another relaxing day with some reading, chores, exploring, and„of course„food and drink!

From the log: Overnight the wind picked up and blew 10-15. Spotty sleeping due to the noise and I got up early (0530). Quite foggy and everuthing was damp. During the night the flag halyard [spreaders] had let go and the bugees were in the codkpit. Bundled up and sat out w/coffee and a book for a while, then went below to take care of a few things, including plotting a few routes onthe computer. By late morning the fog had lifted, but the wind continued to blow„15-20 with higher gusts. Tried to get dinghy moter started, even changing the spark plug, but nothing. Rowed ashore and investigated one of the islands for a while before returning ot the boat. Few chores, including cleaning out the VERY FULL sea strainer. Read for much of the afternoon and downloaded photos to the laptop. Headed to Glissando around 1730 for codktails. After drink #1 a storm seemed to be approaching so I went back to Dasein, just in case. Storm passed just to the West with substantial lightning. Afterwards, returned to G[lissando] for a 2nd drink, but turned in early. About 20 minutes after getting back another storm rolled through. Lots of lightning all around but only one strike that was very close. Moderate rain before midnight but the wind was finally done.
