Distance Travelled: 26.5 nm | PYC to Harmon Harbor

cruise photoWell, the cruise was finally here! I had a few things to deal with in the morning, but was down at the club by 0930 or so. I said goodbye to Heather and Gavin and headed out to the boat. I had a few last things to load out and stow, but soon enough I was ready to go. Tim (Glissando, 381), Britton (Prudence, 680), and I got together for a quick skippers meeting and we then we were off.

From the log: Left by 1100. Motored out and found favorable winds, but light. Power sailed to Chandlers, out past Hope and to Broad Sound. Nice sail across Broad Sound, but current caused us to motor past Little Mark. Once outside again, had a nice sail across Casco Bay. I was in Glissando's wind shadow and would surge ahead until I got caught in the windshadow and fall back again. Did this for 1/2 hour or so until I caught one gust just right and surged ahead. Got out 1/4 mile or so before they caught up in speed. Eventually the wind eased near Cape Small and we powered the rest of the way The last few miles were quite gusty (20-25) RIGHT on the nose, but we were nearly there anyway. Dropped sails and motored in. Once again, the nice guy came down from his "cottage" waving his arms and asking if we wanted a mooring. Tim and I used his moorings (with nice baskets on top to keep the pennants out of the water!) and Britton took the one across the harbor where the Lyman usually hangs. (the one Dasein used last year). Not long after, Tim came by for a beer and to help get the GPS talking to the Nav Computer. Britton followed and Dasein's new cockpit table was put the test for cocktail hour. Approx 2000 the bugs descended en masse and we all hit our racks for the 0400 wakeup call in the morning.
