Rainy August

August 15 5.0 Nautical Miles

Well, it has rained for... I think 12 days straight.... Finally we've had a couple of nice days. Heather and I managed to get out for a short sail this afternoon. We got to the boat at about 1630 and had left the mooring by 1645. There wasn't much wind in the anchorage, but it looked nice outside, so we hoisted the main and motored out to find the wind. Just outside the anchorage it was blowing about 8 or 10 knots, so we killed the engine and unfurled the jib. Nice!

We close reached past the north end of Clapboard and then eased off for a nice beam reach out toward Lower Basket Island Ledge. The breeze was constant at about 10 knots or so, and the sailing was lovely. After passing the daymark at Lower Basket, we gybed around and reached back on the inside, between the ledge and Basket Island. Nice reach back to Falmouth. As we approached the anchorage, though, the wind died again, so we started the engine and motored back to the mooring. Return time: 1747. We were only out for an hour, but it was very rejuvinating after 2 weeks away from the boat!
