Season Opener
May 17
Ahh. Our first sail for real!
Heather and I arrived at FTL at about 1200. After organizing ourselves, and the dinghy, we headed out to the boat. We had a few little things to take care of, like pinning the turnbuckles for the rig, and rigging up the new outhaul arrangement for the loose-footed main.
Around 1330 we hoisted the main and sailed off the mooring in about 12-15 knots. We had a lovely sail south along Clapboard Island and we headed up toward Portland. We were closehauled, but only had to make a couple of tacks, and the boat was handling nicely. As we got closer to Portland, we decided we needed to turn around, as we were heading to a Bon Voyage party for our friend Peter Stoops, who will be leaving for a cruise across the pond in early June.
We sailed back the way we came, to Falmouth. We sailed past Tim on Glissando on our way back to the mooring, and commented on how nice the day was. Sailed back to the mooring and picked up under sail. Nice!
